Second Grade Reseach Unit

Second grade has done an awesome job researching the three types of forests this week in the library: Coniferous, Deciduous, and Rain Forest!

This is the cover of the research unit. I encouraged the kids to draw in additional plants and animals they might see in a forest.
The triple venn diagram was quite challenging, but the second graders were up for it!
This chart has three pages. Feel free to let me know if you'd like a copy of them.
Students cited their sources on the last page.
I'm so proud of our Allen second graders for learing so much this week during our research unit. Next week, they will continue to learn about the different animals in each forest.

Second graders are gearing up for a library unit on different types of forests.  Before that, though, they'll be learning some important note taking skills.  Here is a powerpoint that will teach them about those essential trash and treasure words.

Book of the Week: Grounded

This is a prime example of why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.  What an awesome story!  You won't want to miss reading this one.  Did you know that the author of this title, Kate Klise, will be visiting Allen next year?

After her father, brother, and sister are killed in a plane crash, twelve-year-old Daralynn's life in tiny Digginsville, Missouri, proceeds as her mother turns angry and embittered, her grandmother becomes senile, and her flamboyant aunt continues to run the Summer Sunset Retirement Home for Distinguised Gentlemen,  while being courted by the owner of the town's new crematorium.  F KLI
